Unscripted Live Edit! Autumn Hills & Mist
If you enjoy posts like this, please support my work and support independent photography tutorials like this.
Join me for an unscripted, uncut edit of a beautiful autumn landscape where the story is all in the color. This scene has rolling hills, mist-covered mountains, and that fleeting moment of fall brilliance that makes the season so special.
In this edit, I start with global adjustments to set the tone, then dive into local light and shadow tweaks to guide the viewer’s eye straight to the autumn color—the heart of the story. The surrounding landscape fades into context, supporting the story without stealing focus. No shortcuts, no scripting—just an honest process of shaping a photo so its story shines.
Watch as this ordinary autumn morning transforms into a scene that stops you in your tracks, and see exactly how I emphasize what makes a photo truly memorable.

A vignette can help guide the viewer toward your subject, but lowering exposure around the edges of a black and white photo can quickly bury important shadow detail.
In this quick tutorial, I’ll show you a more controlled approach using a radial gradient and the Whites or Highlights slider. You’ll still get that visual nudge toward the subject without making already-dark areas disappear.
