The Color Balance filter adds a tint to the highlights, midtones, and shadows of a photo. The tint and strength for each tonal region can be selected independently. For scenes with challenging lighting conditions that have different color casts in the shadows versus the highlights, this tool can help regain control of your photo.

In this photo, there is a lot of green bouncing around the scene.

Global white balance and tint adjustments have already been applied, controlling the color cast to a degree. The Color Balance filter offers more control, so the midtones of the foliage can be corrected separately from the highlights of the skin. Let’s look at each of the tints independently.

A warm tint applied to the highlights, maintaining a warmer skin tone.

A cooler tint applied to the Midtones

A touch of purple to the shadows, as a creative touch.

When all three tints are added, the result is a much more pleasing image than the original greenish one.

A balanced and stylistic look with the Color Balance filter.
