What Are Zebra Stripes? (And Why Do I Care?)

Zebra stripes are a feature of newer mirrorless cameras. A common practice to check exposure is to take a photo and then review the “blinkies” for any clipped highlights or shadows. Another approach is to turn on the zebra stripes feature and see potentially clipped areas in real time.

Why do I like zebra stripes? They speed up workflow in the field. I can see potential problem areas and take steps to deal with them before capturing frames. An important time saver.

In this video, I’ll show you how zebra stripes work in the field, how to set up your camera to use them, and why it’s not always necessary to completely eliminate zebra stripes from your frame when capturing photos.
