In Post: Cityscapes & The Lighten Blending Mode #321

In this video, I’ll show you how to leverage blending modes to get the perfect mix of ambient and artificial light for your cityscape photos. The technique is very easy to do and produces wonderful results. Here it is in a nutshell:

  1. Capture two cityscape photos. One at sunrise/sunset and the other during blue hour.
  2. Load the two photos into a layering package (ON1 Photo, Photoshop, etc.)
  3. Put the blue hour photo on the top layer.
  4. Change the blending mode of the top layer to Lighten. The Screen mode works also.

Did you watch In The Field earlier this week? Check that video out to understand what photos you need to capture in order to make the best of this technique. https://youtu.be/aQfT2_AT-Qw
