Artist's Palette
No trip to Death Valley is complete without a visit to the Artist's Palette. A one-way road snakes through the hills to the namesake overlook. In my opinion, the colors are best at dusk. The surrounding hills don't allow golden light to really work its way into the scene, so most of the day the colors are washed out. Even at dusk, the colors don't immediately look as rich. Don't despair - take the photos. Add a little contrast and saturation and those colors jump right out.
