Are You A Lightroom User? I Need Help
Here's the situation... I've put a lot of effort into metadata management in Aperture. I'm talking about the standard IPTC stuff. And I want that data maintained when I get my photos into Lightroom.
For the most part, exporting photos from Aperture with "Include IPTC" works fine. Except for PSD files. Aperture doesn't support writing IPTC metadata to a PSD file. As far as I know, when I round trip a file from Aperture through programs like the Perfect Photo Suite, the IPTC data is added to the PSD when it's first created. That doesn't help for fields populated after the PSD file exists. I do this often, adding a Title and Caption as a final workflow step for photos that are shared online.
I thought exporting with an XMP sidecar would solve that problem.... it didn't. What I've tried:
- Export the PSD as an original from Aperture including the XMP sidecar
- Manually confirmed the IPTC fields such as Title and Caption are in the XMP sidecar
- Import the PSD into Lightroom
And IPTC data is missing. No Title or Caption. Is this a known limitation with Lightroom? XMP files are ignored for certain file types? Or a known bug (Lightroom 5.7)?
If you're a Lightroom user and have ideas about this, I'm listening. Intently.
