The Show At Bird Rock

The Show At Bird Rock

As the sun dipped low, it lit the underbelly of the clouds as they gently floated off toward the horizon.

The Maze

The Maze

The ocean-carved sandstone shore of La Jolla gives the Minotaur's maze a run for its money. There's all sorts of critters living in these mini-canyons and potholes. iThe curve in the foreground reminds me of Horseshoe Bend in Arizona.

Sunrise Under Coronado Bridge

Sunrise Under Coronado Bridge

In the winter months, the sun rises in the southeast. From the Tidelands Park, the sun rises beneath the Coronado Bridge, one of the few times and places in San Diego for a sunrise over the water.

The Back Side of Broken Hill

The Back Side of Broken Hill

The back side of Broken Hill as the sun rises in Torrey Pines, California.

Stones At Sunset Cliffs

Stones At Sunset Cliffs

On more than one occasion I've been fascinated with this small group of stones at the base of Sunset Cliffs. Only visible at low tide, they make a great foreground subject and almost point the way out to sea.

Torrey Pines Lifeguard Tower

Torrey Pines Lifeguard Tower

I went for a nostalgic, retro look with the processing here. I used one of my Endless Summer presets in Aperture, available free to onOne customers through their loyalty program.

Calm Surf

Calm Surf

On a gray, hazy morning I like getting in close to the waves. Real close. For a good seascape, get wet.

Tide Pools

Tide Pools

Low tide reveals an almost alien landscape. Little sea creatures nestle into these nooks and crannies along the San Diego's coastline.

Ocean Fingers

Ocean Fingers

A wave, moments before it closes its fist and breaks on the shore.

Earth And Sky

Earth And Sky

A beautiful evening along the the rocky coastline near Bird Rock in San Diego.

Desert Blooms

Desert Blooms

I see these purple guys on many of my San Diego hikes. One day, I'll look them up and learn their name.

Sunset Cliffs Swirl

Sunset Cliffs Swirl

I love how the ocean swirled around this rock at the base of Sunset Cliffs in San Diego. Every so often, the waves would stack up enough to pool up in front of the rock and then rush back out to sea.

Twilight At High Tide

Twilight At High Tide

Yet another gorgeous evening along the shores of La Jolla. I'm hard pressed to ever get tired of this place.

Old Point Loma Lighthouse

Old Point Loma Lighthouse

Built shortly after California was admitted to the Union, the Old Point Loma Lighthouse stood watch over San Diego for 36 years.

Seagull In The Rain

Seagull In The Rain

A seagull takes a fishing break on a cold, rainy day along the shores of San Diego.

Windansea Foamy Ocean

Windansea Foamy Ocean

The sky was not the star on this late afternoon at Windansea Beach in La Jolla, San Diego. High tide was rolling in and storms in the South Pacific created some choppy surf.

Morning Reflections

Morning Reflections

A calm pool at the base of the waterfall in Penasquitos Canyon. I started my hike early, well before sunrise. I had the whole place to myself when the sun came up.

Lonely Shoes

Lonely Shoes

A lonely pair of shoes along a stretch of Ocean Beach, their owner nowhere in sight, land or sea. I don't normally selectively color. Here, I couldn't resist pulling back in the shoe laces.

San Diego Pedestrian Bridge

San Diego Pedestrian Bridge

The San Diego harbor front is connected to the downtown ball park by a swooping pedestrian bridge.

Surfers At Crystal Pier

Surfers At Crystal Pier

Crystal Pier reaches out over the ocean along the shores of Pacific Beach in San Diego. As I was finishing up my shoot, a few surfers came out to catch the morning swells. Their presence adds a perfect sense of scale for the scene.

Nature Sculpts The Shore

Nature Sculpts The Shore

The rising tide crashing over the rocks, the waves weaving though cracks and fissures along the shore. The coastline is jagged yet smooth at the same time. I watched the patterns of the waves for ten to fifteen minutes before I began shooting, getting in tune with nature's rhythm that morning. I think I found a groove...

Foggy Harbor

Foggy Harbor

San Diego gets its fair share of fog. On this morning, it was insanely thick, rivaling Point Reyes in northern California. This shot is on Harbor Island facing toward downtown San Diego. The horizon is ever so slightly visible. On a clear day, the skyline dominates the harbor.

San Diego Skyscrapers

San Diego Skyscrapers

A calm, clear morning in America's Finest City, San Diego, California.
